LEGENDARY ENTERTAINMENT TO BRING DEAD RISING VIDEO GAME FRANCHISE TO LIFE ON MULTIPLE PLATFORMS

Popular Zombie Game to Debut as Feature in the US on Crackle; Content Media will Serve as International Distributor

Burbank, CA – June 19, 2014 – Legendary Entertainment has sold the domestic film rights for Dead Rising, based on Capcom’s popular zombie survival video game, to Crackle. It will premiere in the U.S. on Crackle and will be distributed internationally by Content Media Corporation. The announcement made today by Legendary Digital Media’s President of Content and Distribution, Tom Lesinski, marks the first release from Legendary Entertainment’s digital division.

The feature will be written by Tim Carter, who will also produce with Tomas Harlan under their Contradiction Films banner.  Contradiction most recently produced the hit digital series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, Red, G.I. Joe) will executive produce.

Dead Rising takes place during a large-scale zombie outbreak. When a mandatory government vaccine fails to stop the infection from spreading, the four leads must evade infection while also pursuing the root of the epidemic, with all signs pointing to a government conspiracy. Politics, public paranoia, and media coverage play an important role in the story’s narrative.

Crackle will debut Dead Rising as a feature-length film in the U.S. After Crackle’s exclusive distribution run, the show will also be released on SVOD, DVD, VOD and TV. Content Media will distribute Dead Rising in both feature-length and episodic formats for all international platforms.

Dead Rising has a built-in fan base and rich characters and plotlines that are ideal for digital storytelling and on target for Legendary’s brand,” said Lesinski. “Crackle and Content Media are adept at distributing cutting-edge digital content and we look forward to delivering a highly engaging and cool series for a global audience.”

“We are thrilled to be in business with Legendary on this original quality drama project based on such an iconic franchise,” said Content Television & Digital EVP of Sales Jonathan Ford. “Dead Rising does a phenomenal job of capturing the elements that have made this video game such an enormous worldwide hit. It is certain to capture the imagination of its avid international fan base.”

"We are excited to be working with Legendary and Lorenzo, who have both created immersive properties for fans around the world,” said Contradiction’s Carter and Harlan. “As avid players of the game, we're extremely thrilled to take the popular franchise that millions have embraced and give them the opportunity to experience it on a new platform.”

The Dead Rising franchise has sold over 6.5 MM copies worldwide. Publisher Capcom has sold over 100 MM game copies worldwide, including juggernauts Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Mega Man.

Content Media distributes the widely popular online, live-action series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and also distributes the Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist series.
